Designing Instruction

An essential part of designing a course is the planning phase. This information below is my planning for the course I will be creating.

Introduction:

We are a 1:1 campus where every student has a Chromebook. Are you looking for ways to harness the power of this technology and increase student engagement by allowing students to demonstrate mastery of content in a more engaging way? In this course, you will learn to use four different creativity programs that will make this possible. As you learn, you will create lessons and exemplars that you can use with your students. In addition, you will experience the power of working collaboratively on a project.

Learning Goals:

  1. Learners will discover the skills necessary to use each tool.
  1. Learners will design and create an assignment exemplar using each tool.
  1. Learners will create or revise a lesson plan to give students the opportunity to use creativity to demonstrate their learning.
  1. Learners will collaborate to create a lesson plan and exemplar(s) to give students the opportunity to use creativity to demonstrate learning.
  1. Learners will share completed lessons and exemplars with other learners. Class members will evaluate and provide constructive feedback.

Desired Results:

Learners will be able to:

  • Design and create examples of learning with four different creativity tools
  • Collaborate on projects using creativity tools
  • Reflect on learning
  • Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on other’s work
  • assignments that are created with their students

Audience: The audience for this course is the staff at Elgin Middle School. The course will be used for training this summer with the possibility of a district wide rollout.

BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) – Overarching Course Goal

Learners will demonstrate their knowledge of tools for harnessing student creativity by creating lessons and exemplars for their students using each program.
