Planning My Course

It is important to plan out any course. The information below is the outline for the first two weeks of the course I am creating on using creativity tools.

Overview of Expectations for Each Week:

We are a 1:1 campus where every student has a Chromebook. Are you looking for ways to harness the power of this technology and increase student engagement by allowing students to demonstrate mastery of content in a more engaging way? In this course, you will learn to use four different creativity programs that will make this possible. As you learn, you will create exemplars and revise/create a lesson that you can use with your students. In addition, you will experience the power of working collaboratively on a project.

Learning Goals:

  1. Learners will identify and master the skills necessary to use each tool.
  1. Learners will design and create an assignment exemplar using each tool.
  1. Learners will create or revise a lesson plan to give students the opportunity to use creativity to demonstrate their learning.
  1. Learners will collaborate to create a lesson plan and exemplar(s) to give students the opportunity to use creativity to demonstrate learning.
  1. Learners will share completed lessons and exemplars with other learners. Class members will evaluate and provide constructive feedback.

Desired Results:

Learners will be able to:

  • Design and create examples of learning with four different creativity tools
  • Collaborate on projects using creativity tools
  • Reflect on learning
  • Evaluate and provide constructive feedback on other’s work
  • assignments that are created with their students

This course will be individualized for each learner because you will get to choose the assignment you create each week. Each week you will select a lesson that you are familiar with that you can create a work product for. The purpose for this is so that the work you do applies to what you teach. As you work each week, you will create an exemplar. The exemplar for each week can apply to a different lesson or all four can apply to the same lesson. In week 4 you will choose to revise or create a lesson that you will use with your students to allow them creativity in showing what they have learned.

The course will be broken down into 6 topics (found in the Classwork tab). The topics are: course information and five weekly topics. Information contained in each topic will be:

  • Course Information
    • Welcome and course introduction
    • Syllabus
    • Guide on how to participate in the discussion board.
    • Weekly Meeting – Held on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. Link is on the banner and will be active during the meeting time. This will be recorded as a reference. You need to email me if you are unable to attend.
    • Printable calendar (all due dates will also be listed on the Google Classroom Calendar and task cards)
  • Weekly Topics
    • Assignment
      • Outcomes for course and week
      • Assignment
      • Grading rubric
    • Discussion board
      • Video and/or readings for group discussions
      • How to post to discussion board
    • Resources
      • Online tutorials
      • Quick reference guides
  • Grading
    • Week 1 Assignment – 100 Points
    • Week 2 Assignment – 100 Points
    • Week 3 Assignment – 100 Points
    • Week 4 Assignment – 200 Points (Lesson plan and exemplar)
    • Week 5 Assignment – 200 Points (Lesson plan and exemplar(s)
    • Discussion Posts – 100 Points (20 points each week)

Each week learners will submit a completed assignment. In weeks 1, 2 & 3 the assignment will be an exemplar created with the creativity tool that is covered that week. In week 4 an exemplar and a lesson plan will be turned in. Week 5 will require collaboration with others learners. The assignment for this week is an exemplar(s) and lesson plan that were created collaboratively.

Learners will actively participate weekly in a discussion board by posting their reflections. In addition, you will need to respond to other learners posts by posting a meaningful comment to at least two other posts each week. Due to the features of Google Classroom, discussions will be done through google docs and the comment feature. Instructions will be posted on the first page of the document each week. Initial posts are due by 11:59 pm on Thursdays. All comments must be made by 11:59 pm on Sundays. Please note, these discussions are reflections of your learning and as such, are very open ended.

Resources for learning the creativity tool will be provided each week. These resources will include online tutorials and quick reference guides. In addition, the weekly meeting will focus on how to use the tools and will be recorded and placed in the resources folder. If additional assistance is needed,  individual tutorial sessions can be requested via email for learners who need extra support.

Week 1, Detailed Outline (Monday, June 7, 2021 –  Sunday, June 13, 2021):
